This protocol describes the reconstitution and storage of lyophilized tirzepatide in standard research workflows. All values are derived from published peptide-handling literature and from the parameters used in major clinical research protocols. Freeze-thaw Avoid on reconstituted solution. Aliquot if longer-term storage needed.

Procedure

  1. Equilibrate. Allow the sealed vial to come to room temperature before reconstitution. Cold glass + cold diluent can produce condensation on the stopper.
  2. Sterile prep. Wipe the stopper with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry. Use a sterile syringe and a 21G or larger needle for transfer.
  3. Inject diluent slowly. Direct the stream of bacteriostatic water along the inner glass wall — not directly onto the lyophilized cake. Rapid injection onto the cake can foam the peptide and damage structure.
  4. Dissolve gently. Swirl the vial in a slow rotational motion. Do not shake. The lyophilized cake should dissolve within 30–60 seconds.
  5. Verify. Solution should be clear and colorless. If cloudy, particulate, or discolored, do not use — contact Merit (info@meritpeptides.com) with the lot number.

Storage

Reconstituted tirzepatide is stable for approximately 30 days at 2–8 °C when kept in the original vial. The benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water acts as a preservative against microbial growth during this period. Light-protect the vial (most vial stoppers are partially light-permeable).

For storage longer than 30 days, aliquot into sterile single-use tubes and freeze at -20 °C or colder. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles — each cycle introduces degradation. Lyophilized (pre-reconstitution) stability is significantly longer: at least 24 months at -20 °C light-protected.

  • Isopropyl alcohol wipes (70%)
